Recently I was invited to visit Hawaii. We spent two weeks exploring the Islands complete with a storm that followed us from Kauai to Honolulu and finally to the Big
Island. We were blessed with a convertible for panoramic views, good food, lots of laughs, and I was painting as the sun rose whenever I could. I was up well before the
sun even thought of doing so. I would wait for hints of light and then hike out to a location that I had spied the day before. With a thumb-box and 6x8 panels I would
work as rapidly as I could for the light was changing even faster. From these little oil sketches and plenty of photos I have been recreating the spectacular scenery on
larger canvases. Here are some of the completed works. Enjoy!
